OUR CURRICULUM
At Leighland Christian School, we offer a Christ-centred, real-world curriculum that is deeply personalised, academically rigorous, and joyfully engaging. Learning is built around core pedagogical pillars—playful learning, Project-Based Learning (PBL), design thinking, explicit teaching, and transformation by design—with increasing depth and independence across year levels.
Our Pedagogical Pillars (Applies Across All Years)
Regardless of year level, our teaching practices are shaped by:
-
Playful Learning – learning that invites joy, curiosity, and intrinsic motivation
-
Project-Based Learning – real-world projects that develop deep understanding and transferable skills
-
Design Thinking – human-centred problem solving used across the curriculum
-
Explicit Teaching – clear, purposeful instruction that builds strong skill foundations
-
Transformation by Design – a Christian vision for education that forms students' hearts, minds, and hands in the likeness of Christ

Playgroup
We have two fantastic 'free play' Playgroups at both our Ulverstone and Burnie campus. Each run throughout each term of the School year. Playgroup provides an important stepping-stone for younger children to begin their educational journey and is a wonderful way for parents to learn more about the School culture.

Primary School
From Prep to Year 6 students follow the Australian Curriculum where best teaching and learning practices are utilised in the classroom to ensure that our students develop a love of learning. Students can enjoy Kinder - Year 6 Education at both our Burnie and Ulverstone Campus.
Literacy (English) and Numeracy (Mathematics) skills are a primary focus of the Prep to Year 6 program, with Science, Health, Technologies and Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) also strongly promoted. Specialist teachers develop students’ skills in Physical Education, Music, the Arts and LOTE. A Christian worldview is developed and creatively integrated throughout each of the subject areas, while Christian Living classes provide a dedicated time for students to reflect on God’s glory and develop their spiritual, emotional and social skills.
