Learning Support
Students with diverse learning needs are part of God’s plan at Leighland.
They, along with all students at LCS, participate in an education that is aligned to the needs of each individual student, experiencing dignity in God’s creation being made in God’s image.
This identity is independent of their achievements within school or abilities valued and rewarded by society.
Leighland creates an environment where abilities and individuality can be supported and celebrated while students develop, learn and grow.
Leighland has an extensive team of skilled and committed Learning Support Aides that collaborate with classroom teachers to support students with needs across both campuses, from K-12.
This team works under the leadership of the Head of Learning Support, Myriama McNab who works across both Burnie and Ulverstone Campuses, as well as our Neurodiversity Coach and LSA Coach.
Physical break-out spaces for students are positioned between or near classrooms and the Learning Support Area (The HUB) is used constantly, supporting students, running intervention groups, providing an alternate workspace for some and being a quiet gathering space for those who need it during Recess or Lunch.
The Learning Support Team, Teachers, Aides, Parents and Students form a pivotal group where all elements are needed to ensure the healthy growth, development and grounding in identity that every student needs throughout their schooling life.

Wellbeing
At Leighland Christian School we recognise and value the well-being of every student. The interaction between physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social parts of life all impact on well-being and the student’s ability to thrive, overcome challenges and live with purpose and meaning. We recognise that there is a positive connection between personal growth and successful learning outcomes. At Leighland Christian School we are Christian to the core, and we believe that spiritual formation is at the centre of all human flourishing.
At all stages from kinder to Year 12 we have a range of initiatives to support student development and well-being. We have dedicated comfortable well-being spaces especially designed for students. Students also have access to a committed team of support staff including, counsellors, chaplains, a youth worker and pastoral care staff. We work collaboratively with teachers and parents to create a supportive environment that helps our students thrive. We are committed to providing a warm and professional approach to nurturing our students' well-being.
