OUR ASSOCIATION

We are a parent-partnered Christian school. We believe schools ought to be firstly accountable to the parent community they serve, rather than the government, a church, or a denomination. It is to parents that God has given them the responsibility of nurturing their children. As a response to this belief, parents are encouraged to share the vision of Christian education and set the direction for the school.

Our Association and its members are an integral part of ensuring our
School remains vibrant in its faith and values.

WHAT IS AN ASSOCIATION?

Leighland Christian School has a rich heritage which commenced with the formation of the Association in 1954.

Our incredible school began with a dedicated group of people who wanted a place that could teach their children and was connected by a vision for Christian Education on the North West Coast of Tasmania.

Specifically, Members of the Association annually elect a Board which governs the school and sets policies for the developmental direction of the school. Your interest in Association membership is important to us and plays an important part in defining the school's goals and objectives into the future.

The Association is non-denominational and one of its key goals is to ensure that Christian Education is available and accessible to anyone who desires it for their child/ren. Association members are also responsible for upholding the vision for Christian Education and ensuring the school remains faithful to the Educational Creed and Statement of Faith.

WHERE DID THE ASSOCIATION COME FROM?

Like many Tasmanian parent governed school's, Leighland Christian School was strongly influenced by Dutch migrants and their desire for Christian Education. Having fought in Holland for the rights of parents to choose who educates their children, they shared their passion and vision with other Christians in Australia.

WHO CAN BE A MEMBER OF THE ASSOCIATION?

Membership of the Association is not automatic if you have children at the school. Membership of the Association is open to professing Christians who are excited to assist the school in planning its future.

We welcome your enquiry to meet with us to discuss your desire to join if you are a current or past Christian parent of a child at Leighland.  Committed Christians are essential in maintaining
Leighland Christian Schools vision for Christ-centred education and ensuring a healthy, vibrant Association.
