What are my responsibilities as a Parent/Carer if my child is absent from school?

If your child is unwell, you are required to notify the School as early as possible and by 10.00am at the latest.  If your child is going to be absent for any other reason (eg a scheduled appointment) you can send a note into the class/care teacher, call or email the School, or advise the School by using the Leighland Skoolbag app - by 10.00am.

Under the Tasmanian Education Act 2016, families who are planning to withdraw their child/ren from school for a planned extended period to travel, are required to lodge an 'Application for Extended Leave for Travel' form with the Principal.  Please contact the School to obtain this form.

If the School has not received an explanation for your child's absence, a text message will be sent requesting an explanation.  You can reply via text message or call the School.

A Doctor's certificate is required if your child is absent for more than 5 days.

What are the School's guidelines if my child has gastroenteritis?

If your child has been vomiting or suffering from diarrhea it is recommended that they stay away from school for at least 24 hours after vomiting/diarrhea has stopped.

What are the School's guidelines if my child has school sores (Impetigo)?

Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection which spreads easily to other parts of the infected person's body.  It is transferred to other people by direct contact with sores or contaminated clothes.  Impetigo appears as a flat, yellow, crusty or moist patch on the skin.

Infectious Period

The incubation period is 1-3 days and is infectious as long as there is discharge from the sores.

What are the School's guidelines if my child has headlice?

Notify the school immediately.  If your child has head lice, they must remain at home until an initial application of head lice treatment has been completed and all eggs (nits) are removed.

What if my child is late to School?

If your child arrives at School after 8.45am they are required to come to the Office and sign in on the iPad located at Reception.  This ensures that your child's arrival is recorded.

What if I need to collect my child early?

Primary: Both the class teacher and admin staff will need to know that you are collecting your child early.  Children should be collected from the Office and sign out using the iPad at Reception.

Secondary: If your child is aware of this they need to fill out a 'leave' form and have it signed by a Senior Staff member.  Leave forms should be passed into the Office prior to leaving.  Children should be collected from the Office and sign out using the iPad at Reception.
